ANSWERS ON AGING SPECIALIST – FAITH IN ACTION

JOB DESCRIPTION


SUMMARY: 
Under supervision of Director, provide information and assistance in accordance to guidelines, requirements, and standards established through AgeSmart Community Resources.  Services shall be available not only to seniors but also to younger individuals with disabilities.  Paid time off and benefits.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The position of Answers on Aging Specialist will be a full time hourly position.  The Answers on Aging Specialist is expected to work regularly scheduled office hours as agreed with the Director.  The Answers on Aging Specialist is expected to be available occasionally outside regular office hours as needed to speak to community groups, attend senior fairs, or conduct other similar outreach or enrollment events.  Time spent on such events in addition to regular office hours will be paid at the regular hourly rate or time and a half if excess of 40 hours during the given week. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide Information on Opportunities and Services Available to Individuals Within
Their Communities
1.    Access specific information through the Elderly Services Program, networking, research, websites, etc.
2.    Maintain files including current information on services locally available.
3.    When needed, make follow-up calls or call on behalf of the individual in need of a service.
4.    Respond in a timely manner to all requests made.
5.    Provide in-home appointments for clients when needed.

Assist Seniors and Their Families to Access and/or Enroll in Programs for Which They
are Eligible
1.    Promote Answers on Aging through public speaking, newsletter and newspaper articles, distribution of promotional items, networking with other service providers, etc.
2.    Maintain competence in enrollment procedures and requirements for Medicare Part D,
Benefits Access Program and other publicly funded benefits for seniors.
3.    Advocate for individuals as needed.

Reporting Requirements
1.    Establish and maintain data as required for all reporting requirements to prepare and submit reports on a timely basis.  (Includes, but not limited to, AgeSmart Community Resources, ESP, SHIP, SHAP, and United Way.)
2.    Provide written reports to Director and funders.

OTHER:
  1. Work cooperatively with other staff members of Collinsville Faith in Action.
  2. Develop and maintain collegial relationships with others who provide services to seniors
and adults with disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 1.  Knowledge and skill equivalent to completion of four years of college, plus at least
      one year of work experience.  High school education plus six years of work experience,
      including two or more years in a related field, is acceptable.  Volunteer experience may
      be considered toward work experience.
 2.  Active member of local church, synagogue, or faith-based congregation.
 3.  Demonstrated reliability and organization skills.
 4.  Ability to deal patiently, politely, and professionally with seniors, their families and
      caregivers, and others in person and by telephone.
 5.  Ability to make organized, informational presentations and represent the program in the    
      community through public speaking and personal contact.
 6.  Ability to set limits for self within guidelines of the program.
 7.  Computer skills adequate to fulfill requirements of the job.  Includes, but not limited to,
      working knowledge of Word, Website navigation, e-mail and Web-based reporting.
 8.  Ability to function on a professional level with minimal supervision.
 9.  Ability to complete and maintain SHIP certification.
10. Potential to pursue/maintain CIRS-A AIRS certification.


**All jobs with Collinsville Faith in Action require reliable transportation as well as valid and
   current driver’s license and auto insurance (minimum liability coverage of $100,000 per
